ABOUT THE CONFERENCE

The International Mahseer Conference offered the unique opportunity to share knowledge and conservation strategies in a place that is deeply committed to conservation. Although the ranges of the various Mahseer species cover much of southern Asia, the taxonomy and distribution information of these important species are incomplete.

Like many other migratory freshwater species, Mahseer have undergone population declines in some areas of the world due to habitat loss and over-exploitation. Among the various Mahseer species, several are listed as “Endangered”, “Vulnerable”, or “Near Threatened” in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species and many more as “Data Deficient.”

If you have any questions about the conference, please send an email to: mahseer@fishconserve.org
